Techy Search

Search Engines act as filters for the treasure of information available across the Internet. Search engines allow users to easily and quickly find information that has value to them, without the need to wade through large number of irrelevant web pages.

Search starts, of course, with crawling and indexing of web pages, and Google says that the internet now has total of 30 trillion unique individual pages. That grown up 30 times in last five years: in 2008, Google reported that the web had one trillion pages. With that much content, the Internet would be unworkable without the Search Engines, with users would be lost in sea of irrelevant information.

Google says that the Google Index stores information about those 30 trillion pages, aprrox has the storage of 100 million gigabytes. That’s about a 1000 terabytes, and need over three million 32GB USB drives to store all that data.

The aim of the Search Engines is to provide the search results to users that lead to relevant information on high-quality websites. The focused word here is "relevant". To attain the value and retain market share in online searches, Search Engines need to make sure that they deliver results that are relevant to user requirements. They maintain databases of web pages to show the search results. They use automated programs known as "spiders" or "robots" to collect information from websites. The Search Engines use complex algorithms to assess web pages & web sites and assign them a ranking for relevant search keywords and phrases. Google looks at over two hundrerds different metrics when assessing websites, including copy, website usability, in-bound links and information architecture.

This means that the Search Engines provide users with the information they are searching for, and not the information that business marketers would like them to see. Search Enignes provides the results with keyphrases that are service or product-specific rather than brand-specific. Results pages will also include many competitors, which makes acquiring a high position in the search results.

There are two major ways to make sure a web page or website appears in a prominent location on the Search Engines for relevant keyphrases: One is Paid Search also known as PPC(Pay-Per-Click) and other one is Organic Search Engine Optimization. Search Engine Optimization method provides the best long-term results and the best return on investment, Internet users are four times as likely to click an Organic search result as compare to a Pay-Per-Click ad on the same results page. In a poll, 68.7% of marketers in the US found Search Engine Optimization as yielding the best Return on Investment for product and service marketing.

Search Engines matter because they provide and increasingly determine the information about brands, products and services that customers access online. Now a days, Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines is a marketing necessity as having a strong presence in broadcast and print media, or an effective traditional direct marketing program. Consumers and organizations now rely more heavily on them to find the goods, services and suppliers they need.
